Therapy for Long COVID recovery

About Long COVID

Long Covid as a diagnosis is rapidly replacing Post-Viral Fatigue Syndrome. However, at their core, both diagnosis involve energy related symptoms, which have been successfully treated with mind-body connection tools and techniques. Bringing the mind and body back into balance provides the perfect environment for our body's natural healing and regeneration to take place.

Additionally, researchers have found the certain personality traits such as perfectionism, people pleasing, hyper-responsibility, self-sacrifice, a high drive to achieve (see also Burnout), and not wanting to let people down at all cost, are found in those affected by energy related conditions, such as long COVID, ME, and CFS. Research also suggests that people living with ME/CFS may be more likely to suppress emotions.

The above research isn't mentioned to nurture feelings of blame or guilt, but to stir curiosity in the mind-body connection and its impact on health, wellbeing and recovery (see quote below).

How can I treat Long COVID?

Conventional or mainstream medicine view Long COVID as a relatively new condition, which is still being studied. A cure is being researched, so current treatments are focused primarily on helping ease symptoms, and may include the following for Long COVID:

  • Talking Therapy - Getting the right talking therapy can help you understand the messages your body sends and how to act in harmony with those needs or requests.
In areas with publicly funded health services, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is commonly offered as a treatment for long COVID, which often doesn't get to the root of the problem and can leave people with more frustration and anxiety when symptoms resurface. A therapy that treats the mind and body as one unit can help identify the information from your body around anxiety, depression and fatigue.
  • Physiotherapy - Your physiotherapist may share exercises and stretches to help with breathing and muscle pain.
  • Self-help - This would include eating healthily, exercise and getting enough rest.

Can I recover from Long COVID?

Bringing the mind and body back into balance (homeostasis) provides the perfect environment for our body's natural healing and regeneration to take place.

Book Consulation

"Asserting that features of the personality contribute to the onset of illness and, more generally, perceiving connections between traits, emotions, developmental histories, and disease is not to lay blame. It is to understand the bigger picture for the purposes of prevention and healing..."
