They're smiling, but are they happy? Neuroscientist Lisa Feldman Barrett turns what was traditionally understood about emotions on it's head and proposes a new argument: emotions aren't universally pre-programmed into our brains and bodies but, rather, are unique psychological experiences constructed through our personal history, physiology and environment.
For budding neuroscientists How Emotions Are Made will no provide a fascinating insight into the world of emotions and the complexity of human bodies. The level of research and analysis into emotions is extensive and Lisa Feldman Barrett's work has no doubt sent ripples through the scientific community.
If neuroscience fills you with joy then you'll love this book. However, for those currently working on their mind-body connection, or who have a tendency to be 'in their head' I would err on the side of caution and possibly move this to the bottom of your read list.
